The recent <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Minneapolis_College_of_Art_and_Design\" target=\"_blank\">MCAD<\/a> MFA grad focuses on the underrepresented faces of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Minneapolis%E2%80%93Saint_Paul\" target=\"_blank\">Twin Cities<\/a>, a mission driven by the lack of visibility of stories like hers: people of mixed-race backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>Barlow first became fascinated by the question of how we define who we are in the fifth grade, when she was asked to label her race on a standardized test. This was before the \u201cother\u201d box existed or multiple choices were allowed.
