{"id":48337,"date":"2016-07-20T13:33:56","date_gmt":"2016-07-20T13:33:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=48337"},"modified":"2016-07-20T13:34:28","modified_gmt":"2016-07-20T13:34:28","slug":"my-soul-has-found-its-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=48337","title":{"rendered":"My Soul Has Found Its Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jewsofcolour.ca\/2016\/07\/11\/my-soul-has-found-its-home\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>My Soul Has Found Its Home<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jewsofcolour.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Jews of Colour Canada: Building community through identity and faith<\/a><br \/>\n2016-07-11<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shirley Gindler-Price<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Out of the 95,000 US Occupation babies born in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Germany\" target=\"_blank\">Germany<\/a> shortly after <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_War_II\" target=\"_blank\">WWII<\/a>, there were approximately 5000 of us, post WWII <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Afro-Germans\" target=\"_blank\">Afro-German<\/a> children, so-called Negro <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=451\" target=\"_blank\">mulatto<\/a> babies, better known as German \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brown_Babies\" target=\"_blank\">Brown Babies<\/a>.\u2019 Born to German women and African-American soldiers, the SPD (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_Democratic_Party_of_Germany\" target=\"_blank\">Social Democratic Party of Germany<\/a>) deemed that we formed a special group, presenting a human and racial problem of a special nature. Our national and cultural heritage [and perhaps even our religious birthright] were seen to be in direct contrast to our skin color.<\/p>\n<p>Born in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nuremberg\" target=\"_blank\">Nuremberg, Germany<\/a>, my <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Mutti\" target=\"_blank\">mutti<\/a> and I eventually moved to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ansbach\" target=\"_blank\">Ansbach<\/a>, where at the age of two, I would be given up for adoption.
