Hundreds of Irish marched in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter<\/a> movement in Dublin<\/a>, Cork<\/a>, and Galway<\/a>, following a week of violence in the United States.<\/p>\n

Activists gathered at the Spire on Dublin\u2019s O\u2019Connell Street<\/a>, with over 200 gathering at Daunt Square<\/a> in Cork and Eyre Square<\/a> in Galway. The protesters gathered in reaction to the deaths of Alton Sterling<\/a> in Baton Rouge, Louisiana<\/a> and Philando Castile<\/a> in St. Paul, Minnesota<\/a>, earlier this month and the murder of five police officers<\/a> during a protest in Dallas, Texas<\/a>, during a Black Lives Matter rally.<\/p>\n

Black Lives Matter is a movement, started in the US, that campaigns against the racism, violence and dehumanization of black people. The protest in Dublin was organized by the Anti-Racism Network Ireland<\/a> and the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland<\/a>. The Workers Solidarity Movement<\/a> estimated that there were 1,300 people at the rally in Dublin…<\/p>\n

…Cork man Tom spoke to the crowd about his \u201cgood fortune\u201d in marrying his Nigerian wife and being \u201cblessed with four mixed race boys.\u201d However, he said he worried about the world they are growing up in and said he does not want to live in a society \u201cwhere people of color are treated as less than equal.\u201d…<\/p>\n
