NBA Star Amar\u2019e Stoudemire Is Moving to Israel \u2014 Because He\u2019s a Hebrew Israelite<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

This week, basketball star Amar\u2019e Stoudemire<\/a> ended a celebrated 14-year career with the NBA<\/a>. The six-time All-Star spent most of his career with the Phoenix Suns<\/a> and the New York Knicks<\/a>, before finishing with the Dallas Mavericks<\/a> and the Miami Heat<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now he\u2019s moving on and up \u2014 to Jerusalem<\/a>. Jews who move to Israel<\/a> commonly refer to the move as \u201cascending\u201d to the Holy Land<\/a>. And like many of them, Stoudemire\u2019s move is at least partly a spiritual journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Scripture speaks about Jerusalem as a holy place, and I can feel that whenever I\u2019m in the city,\u201d Stoudemire wrote<\/a> in a farewell note. \u201cMy whole journey with reuniting with the Holy Land has always been important,\u201d he added at a press conference.<\/p>\n

That \u201cjourney\u201d has fascinated, and at times bewildered, some American Jews and Israelis. Stoudemire visited Israel in 2010 to \u201cexplore his Hebrew roots\u201d and has visited many times since, even applying for Israeli citizenship<\/a>. His affinity for Israel prompted a flurry of media attention \u2014 was he Jewish? Some mainstream outlets reported then \u2014 and some continue to erroneously report \u2014 that Stoudemire converted or had a Jewish mother.<\/p>\n

But Stoudemire is no Jew, convert or otherwise…<\/p>\n
