He was raised in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gaborone\" target=\"_blank\">Gaborone<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Botswana\" target=\"_blank\">Botswana<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He describes himself as \u201ca bit of a cultural cocktail\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI follow both sides. When my mother was still alive I would go to <em>umgidi<\/em> [traditional celebration of a rite of passage] and <em>imisebenzi<\/em> [traditional ceremonies] with her as often as she asked. I do from time to time now\u201a but definitely not as often.<\/p>\n<p>As a \u201cmulticultural\u201d Sunners says he celebrates \u201ctypical Western holidays\u201d\u201a \u201cbut I don&#8217;t celebrate a lot of my Xhosa practices as much as I did growing up\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#8217;t feel I belong to just one culture because I don&#8217;t. I belong to both. It is difficult to celebrate <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heritage_Day_(South_Africa)\" target=\"_blank\">Heritage Day<\/a> purely from a Xhosa or from an English perspective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI celebrate Heritage Day with those who mean the most to me\u201a family and friends alike.
