Today, the name Pico is a familiar place name. Driving or walking throughout <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Southern_California\" target=\"_blank\">Southern California<\/a> one will encounter busy <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pico_Boulevard\" target=\"_blank\">Pico Boulevard<\/a>; the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pico_Rivera,_California\" target=\"_blank\">City of Pico Rivera<\/a>; two <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sausd.us\/piopico\" target=\"_blank\">P\u00edo Pico elementary schools<\/a>; the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pico-Union,_Los_Angeles\" target=\"_blank\">Pico-Union district<\/a> near <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Downtown_Los_Angeles\" target=\"_blank\">downtown L.A.<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mid-Wilshire,_Los_Angeles\" target=\"_blank\">Pico Park<\/a>; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lapl.org\/branches\/pio-pico-koreatown\" target=\"_blank\">P\u00edo Pico Koreatown Library<\/a>; the three-story <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pico_House\" target=\"_blank\">Pico House<\/a> building; natural landmarks such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lamountains.com\/parks.asp?parkid=44\" target=\"_blank\">Pico Canyon<\/a> north of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Los_Angeles\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surfline.com\/surf-report\/pico-creek-central-california_5053\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pico Creek<\/a> near <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oceanside,_California\" target=\"_blank\">Oceanside<\/a>; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piopico.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">P\u00edo Pico State Historic Park<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Whittier,_California\" target=\"_blank\">City of Whittier<\/a>, just to name a few. His name has been commercialized in several businesses from corner grocery stores, shopping malls and fast food restaurants. And yet, despite the veneration in the popular mind, much of what we know about P\u00edo Pico remains clouded in myth.
