The &#8220;Blackanese&#8221; experience \u2013 of a world where divisiveness remains common and cultural ambiguity can equate to invisibility within one\u2019s own communities \u2013 will be exposed through readings, presentations and Q&amp;A.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Featuring readings and presentations by:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/salys\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Alyss Dixson<\/strong><\/a> will read from \u201cThe Club\u201d, her short fiction piece about Ai, a determined Black Japanese girl who decides to sneak a ride on her father\u2019s old <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harley-Davidson\" target=\"_blank\">Harley<\/a> until an encounter with a thief puts her between fear of the stranger and fear of her dad\u2019s punishment.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dreamwaterchildren.net\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Fredrick Cloyd<\/strong><\/a> will read selections from his memoir, <a href=\"https:\/\/dreamwaterchildren.net\/dream-of-the-water-children\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Dream of the Water Children: Memory and Mourning in the Black Pacific<\/em><\/a>, covering his struggles as a half-Black Japanese boy born of an African American military father and that of his mother who was looked down upon for having a child by an American, as well as his life as an <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Amerasian\" target=\"_blank\">Amerasian<\/a> after migrating to the United States.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ramon Calhoun<\/strong>\u00a0will read excerpts from his independently-published novel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Blackanese-Boy-Ramon-Calhoun\/dp\/1499102178\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Blackanese Boy<\/em><\/a>, the coming of age story of Rafael Halifax.
