That sentiment is usually accompanied by other similarly dehumanizing compliments such as \u201cmixed people are so beautiful,\u201d \u201cmixed babies are so cute,\u201d or citing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=33601\" target=\"_blank\">some article from <em>National Geographic<\/em><\/a> about how mixed people are the people of the future.<\/p>\n<p>When conversations about multiraciality come up, a common theme is how it is exoticized by comments like those, in a similar way to how <a href=\"http:\/\/everydayfeminism.com\/2016\/01\/calling-woc-exotic-is-racist\/\" target=\"_blank\">people of color in general are exoticized<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But there is another aspect of these <a href=\"http:\/\/femmagazine.com\/2016\/04\/03\/feminism-101-what-are-microaggressions\/\" target=\"_blank\">microaggressions<\/a> that is not brought up as often: assumptions of gender&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Read the entire article <a href=\"http:\/\/femmagazine.com\/2016\/05\/26\/gendered-mixed-race\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gendered (Mixed) Race FEM: UCLA&#8217;s Feminist Newsmagazine Since 1973 2016-05-26 Laura Jue \u201cYou\u2019re so exotic.\u201d That\u2019s a phrase that many mixed race people like me have heard at least a few times in their lives.
