After her parents divorced, Pryor spent time with both grandmothers and in both cultures, forging a unique identity that combined elements from her Black and Jewish legacies.<\/p>\n<p>In 2004, Pryor created and toured in \u201cFried Chicken and Latkes,\u201d an award-winning solo show based on her life that played to sold-out crowds and standing ovations across the country and in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Kingdom\" target=\"_blank\">UK<\/a>. In 2005, the show won an NAACP Theatre Award for Best Female Performer Equity, and the Invisible Theatre\u2019s Goldie Klein Guest Artist Award. The 2012 New York Times review of the \u201ceffervescent\u201d show described Pryor as \u201ca robust, ebullient performer.\u201d&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Recently, she spoke with the <em>Ledger<\/em> about the evolution\u00a0of her \u201cFried Chicken and Latkes\u201d and the influences that shaped it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<strong>Q: How do you express your dual identity today?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> For <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_Holy_Days\" target=\"_blank\">High Holidays<\/a>, my mom and I go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.picounionproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pico Union<\/a>\u00a0[formerly Sinai Temple], the oldest synagogue building in\u00a0Los Angeles. They do a lot of outreach. I also embrace my Black African-centric heritage and practice <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/If%C3%A1\" target=\"_blank\">If\u00e1<\/a>, an ancient and mystical <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yoruba_religion\" target=\"_blank\">Yoruba tradition<\/a> honoring the ancestors, which to me went beautifully with the High Holiday services.
