The coolest thing about me is being black. When they assume otherwise, I do not get mad or accusatory; I understand the complexity of genes and phenotypes. I embraced the role of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/House_slave\" target=\"_blank\">house slave<\/a> when I resignated with Isaiah in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Birth_of_a_Nation_(2016_film)\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Birth of a Nation<\/em><\/a> because we have been cultured to compare each other\u2019s pain. My insides are screaming: \u201cI HURT TOO.\u201d Yet, I know that feeling robbed of my heritage, spliced, and everything but whole does not compare to the aggressions darker folks face.
