\u201cMy President is Black; in fact, he\u2019s half White<\/p>\n

So even in a racist mind he\u2019s half right<\/p>\n

\u2014Jay-Z<\/a> and Young Jeezy\u2019s<\/a> \u201cMy President\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s what runs through my mind as I read Ta-Nehisi Coates\u2019<\/a> dissection of #POTUS44<\/a> in The Atlantic<\/em> magazine. In \u201cMy President Was Black<\/a>,\u201d Coates, a Black thought leader and New York Times<\/em>-bestselling author of Between the World and Me<\/em><\/a>, riffs on President Obama<\/a> in a potent, yet lacking, meditation on race, racism, and the identity politics of tightrope dancing as the leader of the free world.<\/p>\n

In this and previous essays, Coates examines the kaleidoscopic nature of POTUS44\u2019s racial identity through a strictly Black lens. As a result, he never quite grasps how the nuances and complexities of Obama\u2019s Biraciality intersect with his governance as The First Black President.<\/p>\n

The \u201cmy President is Biracial\u201d concept\u00a0not an easy equation to understand unless you are one of the folks whose lineage spills outside the narrow lines of identities limited to the constricting binary that is racial identity in the USA<\/a>…<\/p>\n
