Yet the way someone looks\u2014at face value\u2014isn\u2019t necessarily who they may be. \u201cParadoxical space\u201d was first coined by feminist geologist <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gillian_Rose\" target=\"_blank\">Gillian Rose <\/a>nearly a quarter of a century ago. Today, in both <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Canada\" target=\"_blank\">Canada<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\" target=\"_blank\">US<\/a>, the first wave of self-identified mixed-race adults has come of age and with it, artists seeking to find a foothold.
