Identity. Relationships. Power. These were the main themes in last week\u2019s two-day event, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=51388\" target=\"_blank\">50 Years of Loving: Seeking Justice Through Love and Relationships<\/a>,\u201d hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.creighton.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Creighton University\u2019s <\/a>2040 Initiative and the Werner Institute. More than 150 people participated in the event.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=415\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Loving v. Virginia<\/em><\/a> is a 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision that ruled anti-<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=450\" target=\"_blank\">miscegenation<\/a> laws unconstitutional. The case involved Richard Loving, a white man, and Mildred Loving, a black woman. They were charged in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Virginia\" target=\"_blank\">Virginia<\/a> with the felony of miscegenation \u2013 or mixing races \u2013 and were told their marriage was invalid.<\/p>\n<p>Creighton\u2019s two-day event kicked off last Thursday with a talk by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.matjohnson.info\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mat Johnson<\/a>, author of the 2015 book<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=41167\" target=\"_blank\"> <em>Loving Day<\/em><\/a>.
