Strmic-Pawl<\/strong><\/a>, Assistant Professor of Sociology<br \/>\n<em>Manhattanville College, Purchase, New York<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3wskdoFKc5E?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Several strong experiences with the complexities of race as a child led Hephzibah to wanting to escape these problems by becoming a business major and &#8216;marrying well&#8217;. As she embarked on that path she found that solution incomplete and unfulfilling and so move into studying economics and sociology. Since then, she has developed an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=39652\" target=\"_blank\">understanding of how White Privilege and White Supremacy shaped the structures<\/a> not only of her childhood, but also of our country.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hephzibah V. Strmic-Pawl is a sociologist who specializes in the study of race and contemporary racial inequality, and has a focus on American multiracialism. She is the author of the book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=48551\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Multiracialism and Its Discontents: A Comparative Analysis of Asian-White and Black-White Multiracials<\/em><\/a> and co-editor of the reader <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=49294\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Race and Ethnicity: Constancy in Change<\/em><\/a>. In addition to her research on multiracialism, she is invested in the pedagogy of race and is beginning new work on gentrification. Dr. strmic-pawl is also the founder of the campaign to create a holiday in honor of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/African-American_Civil_Rights_Movement_(1954%E2%80%931968)\" target=\"_blank\">Civil Rights Movement<\/a> activist, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ella_Baker\" target=\"_blank\">Ella Baker<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.supportellabakerday.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.supportellabakerday.com<\/a>).
