The big Korean letters on her shirt say, \u201cBack in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Korea\" target=\"_blank\">South Korea<\/a>, my mother\u2019s country.\u201d (by <a href=\"mailto:nglish@hani.co.kr\" target=\"_blank\">Kang Sung-man<\/a>, senior staff writer)<\/small><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><em>More Korean adoptees are organizing to search for their birth parents through <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Genetic_testing\" target=\"_blank\">DNA testing<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bella Siegel-Dalton is back in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Korea\" target=\"_blank\">South Korea<\/a> for the first time since being adopted by a family in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Napa_Valley_AVA\" target=\"_blank\">Napa Valley<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Northern_California\" target=\"_blank\">northern California<\/a> in 1966. When Bella Siegel-Dalton, 56, met a Hankyoreh reporter in a coffee shop on the first floor of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lottehotel.com\/seoul\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lotte Hotel<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seoul\" target=\"_blank\">Seoul<\/a> on Apr. 1, her face was pallid. Because of kidney trouble, she needs to receive a transplant within two years. She\u2019s also receiving <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chemotherapy\" target=\"_blank\">chemotherapy<\/a> after being diagnosed with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leukemia\" target=\"_blank\">leukemia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Seven years ago, Siegel-Dalton identified her biological father in the US through <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Genetic_testing\" target=\"_blank\">DNA testing<\/a>, but he had already passed away. During this trip to South Korea she says she wants to find her biological mother. \u201cMy 17-day trip to South Korea is challenging, so I\u2019m gritting my teeth and hanging on. But it\u2019s not painful, because this visit is so important to me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Siegel-Dalton is a mixed-race adoptee who was born in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dongducheon\" target=\"_blank\">Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province<\/a>, in 1961, to a South Korean woman and an American soldier. Her birth name was Lee Ji-sun. \u201cMy adoptive parents were really good people. My mother was an English teacher with a Master\u2019s degree, while my father was a researcher for Shell Oil.
