Rechelle is white; Gerritt, who was adopted, is black.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rebel19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rebecca Carroll<\/a>, editor of special projects at WNYC Radio, heard echoes of her own story in that conversation.
