It\u2019s complicated.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Some legends are told<br \/>\nSome turn to dust or to gold<br \/>\nBut you will remember me<br \/>\nRemember me, for centuries<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Last night, my eighth-grader daughter went to see the band <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fall_Out_Boy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fall Out Boy<\/a> in concert\u2014no comments on a 13-year-old\u2019s musical tastes, or I will smite you. Behind the band, as they played their hit song \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Centuries_(song)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centuries<\/a>,\u201d was a massive flat-screen image of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Colin_Kaepernick\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colin Kaepernick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s remarkable to think that just two years ago, when Kaepernick turned 28, he was in the middle of his worst season as a pro, injured and only playing nine games, with his team exploring trade options even though he was just two and a half years removed from being a play away from leading his team to a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Super_Bowl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Super Bowl<\/a>. (It\u2019s worth noting that even his worst season involved his having a quarterback rating higher than 13 players who have started for teams this season.)<\/p>\n<p>On the day of his 30th birthday, it\u2019s time to retire questions like, \u201cWhy does he deserve a spot on a roster?\u201d If you\u2019re still asking that, then I doubt you\u2019ve read this far, but I\u2019ll just say that <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tom_Brady\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom Brady<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aaron_Rodgers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aaron Rodgers<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cam_Newton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cam Newton<\/a>\u2014winners of four of the last seven <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Football_League_Most_Valuable_Player_Award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NFL MVP awards<\/a>\u2014think he should be on a team, and if you want to disagree with them, have at it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Read the entire article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/why-colin-kaepernick-matters-so-much\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why has he become a symbol of hope and resistance?
