My white friends\u2019 parents wouldn&#8217;t have a problem with me, but when they saw my stepdad, they wouldn\u2019t let their kids come over anymore. And in middle school, I was called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=medusa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medusa<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/Oreo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oreo<\/a>, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/mutt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mutt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I still get the whole <em>\u201cOh, you&#8217;re not really Black\u201d<\/em> thing because I&#8217;m light-skinned&#8230; and probably because I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=5864\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pass as white<\/a>. Because I grew up with my white mom and I&#8217;m light-skinned, people will invalidate the fact that I&#8217;m Black. But I think being multiracial is its own thing. I&#8217;m not white and I&#8217;m not Black.
