On this fall bake-sale day, the cafeteria of <a href=\"http:\/\/schools.nyc.gov\/SchoolPortals\/11\/X106\/default.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Public School 106<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parkchester,_Bronx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parkchester<\/a> section of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Bronx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bronx<\/a> is buzzing with energy and children\u2019s happy shrieks. A few teachers shout across the hall to keep things from spinning out of control. And when I finally spot 6-year-old Asaya Bullock, he seems to be well in hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReady for your green soup?\u201d Charline, his mother, takes out a thermos with a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spider-Man\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spider-Man<\/a> design on the side.<\/p>\n<p>The green soup is one of the only three things Asaya has ever been able to eat. He drinks it for breakfast, for lunch, for dinner; he drank it for the whole trip that his family took to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Caribbean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caribbean<\/a> to visit his mom\u2019s relatives. Luckily, with broccoli, kale, green beans, and some minced meat, Asaya\u2019s soup is at least healthy\u200a\u2014\u200aand better than the small bowl of potato chips used as comfort food after his bi-weekly belly infusion.
