But when <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prince_Harry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince Harry<\/a> and his fiancee, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Meghan_Markle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meghan Markle<\/a>, made a visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brixton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brixton<\/a> this year, Carter bought a bouquet and weathered a chilly afternoon waiting for a glimpse of the couple.<\/p>\n<p>Carter was glad to see Harry, the happy-go-lucky, ginger-bearded son of the late <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Diana,_Princess_of_Wales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Princess Diana<\/a>. As an immigrant from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jamaica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jamaica<\/a>, though, Carter, 72, really wanted to lay eyes on Markle, a biracial American actress who is the subject of deep fascination here.<\/p>\n<p>Multiethnic Brixton is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_London\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South London\u2019s<\/a> hub for a founding generation of Afro-Caribbean immigrants. It\u2019s a crossroad so central to the story of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/African_diaspora\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">African diaspora<\/a> that local historians call the neighborhood \u2014 with its jerk chicken grills, reggae dance halls and vibrant mural scene \u2014 the black capital of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe<\/a>.
