It was one of two hit musicals in which Ms. Osato appeared in the 1940s.<br \/>\n<em>Eileen Darby\/Graphic House<\/em><\/small><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sono_Osato\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sono Osato<\/a>, a Japanese-American dancer who toured the world with the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Original_Ballet_Russe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo<\/a>, performed with the Ballet Theater in New York and then gained acclaim on Broadway in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_War_II\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World War II<\/a>-era musicals \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/One_Touch_of_Venus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One Touch of Venus<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/On_the_Town_(musical)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">On the Town<\/a>,\u201d was found dead early Wednesday at her home in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manhattan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manhattan<\/a>. She was 99.<\/p>\n<p>Her death was confirmed by her sons, Niko and Antonio Elmaleh.<\/p>\n<p>In the 1930s, Ms. Osato was a groundbreaking presence in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wassily_de_Basil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Col. Wassily de Basil\u2019s<\/a> Ballets Russes, the world\u2019s most widely known ballet company.
