They were questions that took her by surprise because Simone was only 3 years old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe started asking questions about who she is, and I didn\u2019t really have any good answers for her,\u201d Fields said.<\/p>\n<p>It seemed early for her to be paying such close attention to things like that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically, she pointed to my face one day, and she said, \u2018Mommy\u2019s a black girl.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Yeah, Mommy\u2019s a black girl,\u2019 \u201d she said. \u201d(Then Simone) said, \u2018Simone is a white girl.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fields, 48, admitted she really didn\u2019t know the best way to respond to that and told Simone, no, she was a black girl like Mommy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich is not true and was not the thing to do,\u201d she said. \u201cThen (Simone\u2019s dad) Ken said, \u2018You have a little bit of both worlds.
