{"id":5892,"date":"2010-03-11T05:00:38","date_gmt":"2010-03-11T05:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=5892"},"modified":"2010-03-11T05:01:17","modified_gmt":"2010-03-11T05:01:17","slug":"couple-finds-a-more-than-a-century-old-gravestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=5892","title":{"rendered":"Couple finds a more than a century old gravestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.beaumontenterprise.com\/news\/local\/couple_finds_a_more_than_a_century_old_gravestone.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Couple finds a more than a century old gravestone<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.beaumontenterprise.com\" target=\"_blank\">Beaumont Enterprise<\/a><br \/>\n2009-12-13<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"mailto:kpeveto@hearstnp.com\" target=\"_blank\">Kyle Peveto<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beneath a tool shed behind her house, Mallary Sanders and her fiance found a 118-year-old piece of history they are begging someone to take.<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend, Sanders&#8217; fiance, Justin Trusty, 24, was cleaning beneath the pier-and-beam shed when he came across the intact gravestone of a woman who died in 1891.<\/p>\n<p>He told Sanders, 23, he found something that &#8220;will scare you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wasn&#8217;t at all scared,&#8221; Sanders said. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t think there was a grave under there. Now, if I had felt weird about the house&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The couple had no idea what to do with the stone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just wanted it to go back to where it belongs,&#8221; Trusty said.<\/p>\n<p>The gravestone stands about 2-feet tall and is specked with mud from lying flat on the ground. Carved marble reads: in memory of DELIEDE, wife of Wm Ashworth. Deliede died June 27, 1891, at 85, according to the gravestone&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230;The Ashworth family name has a well-recorded history in <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jefferson_County,_Texas\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Jefferson<\/strong><\/a><strong> and <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Orange_County,_Texas\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Orange<\/strong><\/a><strong> counties.
