What about biracial?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHmm\u2026 And what if I wore my hair in an Afro?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still more hands flew into the air.<\/p>\n<p><em>What are you?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Multiracial people field that question daily.<\/p>\n<p>Not long ago \u2014 before, during, and just after the civil rights era \u2014 there was often an unspoken understanding that those of us who are biracial should answer to only one race. One reality. One allegiance.
