\u201cHey you, Caucasian,\u201d Pierce Freelon<\/a> raps with confiding urgency as the video begins. He goes on to break down the formation of American whiteness from varied ethnic groups\u2014something defined not by what it was, but by what it wasn\u2019t, meaning Black and Indigenous\u2014over an energetic collage of animated images.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the first trailer for The History of White People in America<\/em><\/a>, which premieres Monday, July 6 on PBS World<\/em><\/a>. Freelon\u2014Blackspace<\/a> founder, former Durham<\/a> mayoral candidate, and soon-to-be \u201cfamily album\u201d creator<\/a>\u2014is the co-director, writer, and musical composer of the series, which was selected by curator Whoopi Goldberg<\/a> for the Tribeca Film Festival\u2019s<\/a> animated-shorts category…<\/p>\n
