But I do think that what people like <a href=\"http:\/\/history.columbia.edu\/faculty\/Fields.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barbara<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.versobooks.com\/authors\/1740-karen-e-fields\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Karen Fields<\/a> are asking of us in their book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=38794\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Racecraft: The Soul of Inequality in American Life<\/em><\/a>; what <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Gilroy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Gilroy<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=8175\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Against Race<\/em><\/a> is asking of people; what someone like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Albert_Murray_(writer)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Albert Murray<\/a> was asking of people when he told us that we were a \u201cmongrel nation,\u201d and that \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=33044\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">[a]ny fool can see that white people are not really white, and that black people are not black<\/a>\u201d; what, in my own way, I\u2019ve tried to propose in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=58090\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Self-Portrait in Black and White<\/em><\/a>, is that you can\u2019t actually defeat racism by merely opposing racism. You have to actually start opposing the categories of race if you want to transcend the hierarchies and caste systems they impose.
