Kamala Harris<\/a> to be his running mate.<\/li>\n<li>Widely considered at moderate Democrat, Harris will be the first Black woman to join a major party ticket.<\/li>\n<li>The announcement caps off a monthslong process that saw nearly a dozen prospective running mates vetted by the Biden campaign.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Washington,_D.C.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WASHINGTON<\/a> \u2013 Former <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joe_Biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vice President Joe Biden<\/a> has chosen <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kamala_Harris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sen. Kamala Harris<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/California\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">California<\/a> to join him on the Democratic ticket, fulfilling his pledge to select a female running mate and making Harris the first Black person ever tapped as the vice presidential nominee of a major party.<\/p>\n<p>His campaign announced the pick Tuesday afternoon through his webpage.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s selection of Harris, 55, lends racial diversity, gender parity and generational breadth to his campaign. It also represents a strategic decision by the 77-year-old former vice president to keep his ticket firmly within the more moderate wing of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Democratic_Party_(United_States)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Democratic Party<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau,\u201d tweeted Biden, referring to his late son, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beau_Biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beau Biden<\/a>. \u201cI watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse.
