The young lovers had traveled from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Florida<\/a> to meet each other\u2019s relatives and attend the 50th anniversary of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/March_on_Washington_for_Jobs_and_Freedom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March on Washington<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The reminiscences from 1963 march veterans had ended and the trek to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lincoln_Memorial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lincoln Memorial<\/a> was about to begin when David saw an organizer standing near a microphone at the top of the stairs. He walked up to the man with the mic and introduced himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, I\u2019d like to say something. Can I do it?\u201d David said.<\/p>\n<p>The man gave him the once-over and immediately said \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, no, you don\u2019t understand. I\u2019d like to propose to my girlfriend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d the man said again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said, \u2018No, you don\u2019t understand,\u2019\u201d David said. \u201c\u2018That\u2019s my girlfriend.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pointed to Jessica.
