The sisters have filed suit against the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mashpee_Wampanoag_Tribe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe<\/a>, arguing that tribe has wrongly taken them off its membership roll. <em>Steve Heaslip\/Cape Cod Times<\/em><\/small><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mashpee,_Massachusetts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MASHPEE<\/a> \u2014 Twin 20-year-old sisters are taking <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mashpee_Wampanoag_Tribe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wampanoag<\/a> tribal leaders to court after they were removed from the tribal membership roll.<\/p>\n<p>Kayla and Kaitlyn Balbuena are suing the <a href=\"https:\/\/mashpeewampanoagtribe-nsn.gov\/enrollment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Enrollment Committee<\/a> in Tribal Court after the committee removed them from the tribal roll about a month ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want to sue our tribe,\u201d Kayla said, \u201cbut we just want to fight for our rights back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Balbuena sisters filed the lawsuit on Sept. 15. The sisters, who live in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mashpee_Wampanoag_Tribe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">East Falmouth<\/a>, argue that the tribe&#8217;s enrollment department placed them on a pending list and have taken away their rights as tribal members based on hearsay and falsehood.<\/p>\n<p>The enrollment committee and Rita Lopez, the enrollment department director, did not respond to a request for comment.
