DC Entertainment<\/a> reportedly passed on \u201cBridgerton<\/a>\u201d breakout Reg\u00e9-Jean Page<\/a> for a role in Syfy\u2019s<\/a> \u201cKrypton<\/a>\u201d after an executive allegedly argued that the series\u2019 lead could not be portrayed by a Black actor.<\/p>\n

Before his star skyrocketed with the release of Shonda Rhimes\u2019<\/a> hit period drama, Page auditioned to play Superman\u2019s<\/a> grandfather in the action program, according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>. Despite the \u201cKrypton\u201d creators\u2019 reported desire to diversify the DC Extended Universe<\/a>, then-DC chief creative officer Geoffrey Johns<\/a> allegedly said Superman\u2019s grandfather could not be Black.<\/p>\n

In a statement paraphrased Tuesday by THR<\/em>, a rep for Johns defended the casting decision on the grounds that the Hollywood exec \u201cbelieved fans expected the character to look like a young Henry Cavill<\/a>,\u201d who is white and plays Superman in the DC films. The starring role in \u201cKrypton,\u201d which ran for two seasons from 2018 to 2019, eventually went to white actor Cameron Cuffe<\/a>…<\/p>\n
