He is referring to the man born in 1884 who founded <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">America\u2019s<\/a> first black-owned major record label; desegregated part of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago<\/a>; mentored the founder of <em>Ebony<\/em> and <em>Jet<\/em> magazines and spearheaded the career of blues singer <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ethel_Waters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethel Waters<\/a>. Pace is a figure who is seemingly everywhere at once, yet his name has been suspiciously absent from the history books.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis story encapsulates how progress comes about in America \u2013 and it is never in a straight line,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JadAbumrad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jad Abumrad<\/a>. \u201cIt is often a cycle \u2013 one that contains hope and despair, smashed together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Best known for their work on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnycstudios.org\/podcasts\/radiolab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Radiolab<\/a> and its hit spin-off, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnycstudios.org\/podcasts\/dolly-partons-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Dolly Parton\u2019s America<\/em><\/a>, Abumrad and his co-producer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShimaOliaee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shima Oliaee<\/a> are speaking from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_City\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York<\/a> about their latest podcast, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnycstudios.org\/podcasts\/radiolab\/articles\/vanishing-harry-pace-episode-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Vanishing of Harry Pace<\/em><\/a>. The six-part series examines the life and legacy of its titular character \u2013 the founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Swan_Records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Black Swan records<\/a>, who had a hand in coining the term \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rock_and_roll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rock \u2018n\u2019 roll<\/a>\u201d.
