Silvia played a foundational role in leading freedom seekers to safe havens by ferrying them away from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US<\/a> bondage to freedom destinations in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mexico\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mexico<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/4643bf96-e042-4e2b-b31c-bb45b7e58065\/#_ftn2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wplink-url-error=\"true\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 1819, 12-year-old Silvia was transported to the Cryer family\u2019s plantation in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Clark_County,_Arkansas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clark County, Arkansas<\/a>. There she was sold on Mach 10, 1819 by Silas McDaniel to Morgan Cryer Sr., a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Revolutionary_War\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Revolutionary War<\/a> veteran, for $550.<a href=\"https:\/\/4643bf96-e042-4e2b-b31c-bb45b7e58065\/#_ftn3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wplink-url-error=\"true\"><sup>3 <\/sup><\/a>Silvia labored in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arkansas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arkansas<\/a> for seven years until she was forced South from there, to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mexican_Texas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mexican Texas<\/a> by her enslaver\u2019s son, John. Silvia arrived in Texas on March 15, 1826, as one five enslaved individuals introduced into <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Old_Three_Hundred\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Austin\u2019s Colony<\/a> by John Cryer, his wife, and his two children.<a href=\"https:\/\/4643bf96-e042-4e2b-b31c-bb45b7e58065\/#_ftn4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wplink-url-error=\"true\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;While still enslaved at John Cryer\u2019s plantation in central Texas Silvia was pursued by John Webber, a white man from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vermont\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vermont<\/a> who had settled in a neighboring <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Land_grant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">land grant<\/a>.
