But the public school teacher describes herself as a \u201cliterary debutante\u201d with the October publication of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=61697\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">My Monticello<\/a>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jocelynjohnson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jocelyn Nicole Johnson<\/a> has been a public school art teacher for 20 years, but she is not in her elementary classroom this fall in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charlottesville,_Virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charlottesville, Va.<\/a> Her debut collection, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=61697\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">My Monticello<\/a>\u201d \u2014 five short stories and the book\u2019s title <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Novella\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">novella<\/a> \u2014 will be published on Oct. 5. The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pulitzer_Prize\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pulitzer Prize<\/a>-winning author <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Colson_Whitehead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colson Whitehead<\/a> has called \u201cMy Monticello\u201d \u201cnimble, knowing, and electrifying,\u201d and <em>Esquire<\/em> named \u201cMy Monticello,\u201d published by <a href=\"https:\/\/henryholt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Henry Holt<\/a>, one of the best books of the fall, writing that it \u201cannounces the arrival of an electric new literary voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To top that off, Netflix plans to turn the book\u2019s title novella into a film.
