Once, as I was putting the final touches on the live auction program for my sons\u2019 school, one of the committee moms expressed surprise when I told her that I wanted to get more Black parents involved the following year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s funny,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t really ever think of you as Black. I\u2019ve always just seen you as one of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
