Miletsky draws on his own biracial past to delve into conversations about race in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">America<\/a>. <em>Newsday\/Thomas A. Ferrara<\/em><\/small><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A week and a half ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZebulonMiletsky\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zebulon Vance Miletsky<\/a>, who will be leading a talk on African Americans and the right to vote on Feb. 27 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brentwoodnylibrary.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brentwood Public Library<\/a>, was zipping through a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Microsoft_PowerPoint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PowerPoint<\/a> presentation in his \u201cThemes in the Black Experience\u201d class at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stonybrook.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stony Brook University<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He got to a slide with bullet points on the renowned black historian and activist <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/W.E.B._Du_Bois\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">W.E.B. Du Bois<\/a>. Miletsky, an assistant professor in Africana Studies and History, went off-script. He shared an anecdote with his students about the time a young Du Bois offered a white girl a valentine and she turned him down flat. Because he was black.
