IMAGES COURTESY BAS BERKHOUT<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em>German-born photographer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zunlee.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zun Lee<\/a> documents the special non-special moments of black family life.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In his late thirties, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zunlee.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zun Lee<\/a> discovered that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=56029\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he was not the son of two Korean immigrants<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frankfurt,_Germany\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frankfurt, Germany<\/a>, as he had believed for most of his life. He was the son of one Korean immigrant\u2014his mother\u2014and a black man he&#8217;s never met. He&#8217;s been struggling with this shift in identity ever since, most recently in the form of three documentary projects, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zunlee.com\/fatherfigure#0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Father Figure<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zunlee.com\/blacklovematters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Black Love Matters<\/em><\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zunlee.com\/faderesistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Fade Resistance<\/em><\/a>.
