It is based on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=2508\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">novel that was written in 1929<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nella_Larsen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nella <del>Lawson<\/del> Larsen<\/a> at the height of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harlem_Renaissance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harlem Renaissance<\/a>.
