Co-sponsored by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/blackgermans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Black German Heritage &amp; Research Association<\/a> (BGHRA) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ecommerce.umass.edu\/defa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DEFA Film Library<\/a>, these panels seek to explore the range of stories and rich imagery in the films of this groundbreaking director.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The deadline for submission is 2022-02-28.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Relevant topics might include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Afro-Germanness and Afro-German creativity and artistic production;<\/li>\n<li>Form, filmmaking, and aesthetics;<\/li>\n<li>Postcolonial and feminist consciousness at the intersections of multiple cultural and familial<\/li>\n<li>traditions, norms, values;<\/li>\n<li>Regimes of the body; femininity and gender;<\/li>\n<li>Engagement with disciplinary regimes, e.g. the police, political regimes, or language;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/German_reunification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">German reunification<\/a> and its repercussion on discourses of racialization, positionality and representation in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Germany\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Germany<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Family his- and herstories;<\/li>\n<li>Affiliation and belonging;<\/li>\n<li>Political activism and self-empowerment; and<\/li>\n<li>The reception of Branwen Okpako\u2019s films.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For more information, click <a href=\"https:\/\/ecommerce.umass.edu\/defa\/projects\/special-events\/38410\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Films of Branwen Okpako: CfP for a GSA Panel Series DEFA Film Library January 2022 We invite contributions for a series of panels on Branwen Okpako\u2019s films, for the 2022 GSA conference, September 15-18, 2022.
