In this fantasy, students could discover a more \u2018authentic\u2019 self as they learned, through the fearless and broad-ranging inquiry of impassioned conversations in and outside of seminars, to question received ideas. Academia today is certainly a place where people can themselves anew, if not more authentically.<\/p>\n<p>Scholars like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jessica_Krug\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jessica Krug<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.usask.ca\/profiles\/che\/carrie-bourassa.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carrie Bourassa<\/a>, both white women, reimagined themselves as women of colour. Rhodes scholar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedp.com\/article\/2022\/01\/rhodes-scholar-recipient-fierceton-withdraws-scholarship-following-university-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mackenzie Fierceton<\/a>, also a white woman, was recently revealed to have constructed an elaborate persona as a \u2018first-generation\u2019 college student who had been passed through the foster system and suffered horrific physical abuse.
