Kelly Curtis<\/a> \u2014 the first Black athlete to compete in skeleton at the Olympics \u2014 has commented on the media attention surrounding her biracial heritage<\/p>\n

Curtis is making history at the 2022 Winter Olympics<\/a> as the first Black athlete to represent Team USA<\/a> in the sport of skeleton<\/a>. The 33-year-old athlete made headlines for her trailblazing career, and now she\u2019s opening up about the media attention surrounding her race.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWelp, I didn\u2019t expect my first Olympic Games to create such a buzz around my genotype,\u201d Curtis wrote in an Instagram post. \u201cI think it\u2019s okay to claim this space being bi-racial, Black and White at the same time. Not half and half.\u201d<\/p>\n
