This study presents a brief introduction to Jackie Kay and \u2018The Broons\u2019 and pays attention to Kay\u2019s referential portrayal of this Scottish family in five of her poems: \u2018Maw Broon Visits a Therapist\u2019 (2006a, p.46-47), \u2018Paw Broon on the Starr Report\u2019 (2006a, p.57), \u2018The Broon\u2019s Bairn\u2019s Black\u2019 (2006a, p.61), \u2018There\u2019s Trouble for Maw Broon\u2019 (2005, p.13-14) and \u2018Maw Broon goes for colonic irrigation\u2019 (unpublished). Each of the poems will be approached stylistically by using the advantages offered by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Corpus_linguistics\" target=\"_blank\">corpus linguistics<\/a> methodology; in particular, the program <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/WordSmith\" target=\"_blank\">Wordsmith Tools 3.0<\/a>.
