She is currently writing her Honors Thesis and plans on continuing her research and pursuing a PhD in History.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230;What specifically have you researched, and what projects are you currently working on?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My research project\/honors thesis is entitled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=7675\" target=\"_blank\">Black Female Agency and Sexual Exploitation: Quadroon Balls and Pla\u00e7age Relationships<\/a>\u201d and I have been working on it for the past two years.\u00a0 I am conducting historical research that focuses on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Orleans\" target=\"_blank\">New Orleans<\/a> from 1805 to 1860.\u00a0 More specifically, I am studying the relationship choices made by some of these free women of color.\u00a0 It appears that some of these women chose to enter into sexual relationships with white men as a mean of gaining social standing, protection, and money.\u00a0 Until recently, historians have overlooked the lives of Louisiana\u2019s free women of color during the colonial and antebellum eras.\u00a0 This research, therefore, expands historical knowledge about the unique social institution of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pla%C3%A7age#The_quadroon_balls\" target=\"_blank\">Quadroon Balls<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=7657\" target=\"_blank\">pla\u00e7age<\/a> relationships in order to give greater breadth to our understanding of free women of color\u2019s sexual and economic choices.
