{"id":7933,"date":"2010-07-09T20:50:01","date_gmt":"2010-07-09T20:50:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=7933"},"modified":"2017-07-16T02:13:16","modified_gmt":"2017-07-16T02:13:16","slug":"triracial-isolates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=7933","title":{"rendered":"triracial isolates"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Triracial isolates represent some two hundred communities scattered throughout the eastern United States, particularly in the southeast, of varying combinations and degrees of European American, Native American, and African American descent.<\/p>\n<p>The triracial isolates are known by a wide variety of names. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York<\/a> is the home of the Van Guilders, the Clappers, the Shinnecock, the Poospatuck, the Montauk, the Mantinecock, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=14946\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jackson Whites<\/a>.\u00a0 In <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pennsylvania\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pennsylvania<\/a>, they are called Pools; in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Delaware\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delaware<\/a>, Nanticokes; in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rhode_Island\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rhode Island<\/a>, Narragansetts; in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Massachusetts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massachusetts<\/a>, Gay Heads and Mashpees; in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ohio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio<\/a>, Carmelites. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maryland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland<\/a> has its Wesorts; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/West_Virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Virginia<\/a> its Guineas; and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tennessee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tennessee<\/a> its Melungeons.\u00a0 There are the Ramps, Issues, and Chickhominy in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Virginia<\/a>; the Lumbees, Haliwas, Waccamaws, and Smilings in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/North_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Carolina<\/a>; Chavises, Creels, Brass Ankles, Redbones, Redlegs, Buckheads, and Yellowhammers, all in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Carolina<\/a>.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louisiana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louisiana<\/a> is the home of a host of triracial communities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>G.
