These are a few unique courses now available to students&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<strong>Intergenerational Roots: A Mixed Heritage Family Oral History Project<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Offered through the <a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/sswweb\/about.html\" target=\"_blank\">School of Social Work<\/a>, <em>Intergenerational Roots: A Mixed Heritage Family Oral History Project<\/em> forgoes papers and exams to explore the history of mixed-heritage families directly by interviewing people of mixed race.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor <a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/sswweb\/faculty\/facpage.php?id=299\">Theresa<strong> <\/strong>Ronquillo<\/a> hopes that the course will teach students new skills in art, public relations, history, interviewing and event planning, as well as to help students understand the issues faced by the mixed-heritage community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI consider this very much a student-driven course, so while I am here to provide structure and guidance, my expectation is for participating students to take on the challenge and just go with it,\u201d said Ronquillo.<\/p>\n<p>Open to all students, this 1-credit course takes no more than 12 students per quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Ronquillo hopes to work with students who have, \u201ca willingness to learn new skills and [to] develop [and] engage in a creative, dynamic learning community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taken over three quarters, this class is designed to be continuous, culminating in an oral history art exhibit at the end of the year. Each quarter can also be taken individually.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFall quarter will focus on student outreach, curriculum development and networking with potential university and community partners,\u201d said Ronquillo.
