{"id":9821,"date":"2010-10-29T22:16:34","date_gmt":"2010-10-29T22:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=9821"},"modified":"2010-10-29T22:16:34","modified_gmt":"2010-10-29T22:16:34","slug":"mixed-heritage-models-set-to-face-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=9821","title":{"rendered":"Mixed heritage models set to face off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/mancunianmatters.co.uk\/content\/mixed-heritage-models-set-face\" target=\"_blank\">Mixed heritage models set to face off<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mancunianmatters.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Mancunian Matters<br \/>\n<\/a>Manchester, England<br \/>\n2010-10-29<\/p>\n<p><strong>Natasha Carter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Models will take to the catwalk in the UKs first mixed-race model contest held by a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manchester\" target=\"_blank\">Manchester<\/a>-based social enterprise tomorrow.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Twenty finalists, all of mixed heritage, will go head to head on October 30th for the title of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mix-d.org\/face\/\" target=\"_blank\">Face of Mix-d 2010<\/a> and a 12 month modeling contract with Boss Model Management.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mix-d.org\" target=\"_blank\">Mix-d<\/a>:, formed in 2006, is a social enterprise aiming to help people explore contemporary mixed-race identity.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mix-d.org\/about\/development\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bradley Lincoln<\/a>, founder of Mix-d:, said: \u201cThe fashion industry will admit that they tend to go for people who are single heritage. With mixed-race people being the fastest growing ethnic minority group, <strong>at some point we\u2019ve got to have some form of competition to show that this proportion of society needs representing on the catwalk&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cIt\u2019s quite pioneering, the first mixed-race competition in the UK, in history actually, and I want Manchester to be proud that we were the first city to host this idea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not about separating people, it\u2019s about showing them they actually share more in common than people realise.\u201d&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;\u201cAll the time I get \u2018You&#8217;re black! You&#8217;re white! You&#8217;re confused!\u2019, I always have to correct people and say \u2018No!
